About LaptopQuiz
Last updated 4 October 2026
LaptopQuiz helps you choose a laptop without learning the jargon first. You answer eight quick questions about how you’ll use it, and we show you the laptops that fit best, each explained in plain English.
Why we built it
Most laptop advice starts with the specs: processors, gigabytes, refresh rates. That works if you already know what they mean. Most people don’t, and they shouldn’t have to. So the quiz asks about your life instead, then does the translating: “lasts a full day” rather than “54 Wh”, “easy to carry” rather than “1.29 kg”.
Which laptops are in the quiz
We start from the laptops people in the UK buy most, then add current models from the major brands to fill the gaps, such as more premium laptops and alternatives from other brands. Only laptops you can currently buy in the UK are recommended. If a laptop sells out, it drops out of the quiz until it’s back.
Where the information comes from
- Manufacturer specifications. Product pages, datasheets and spec sheets from the brands themselves.
- Public product information to match each laptop to the exact model and configuration available, such as its memory and storage.
- Structured product data (Open Icecat) for model numbers and identifiers.
- Google’s update schedule for how long each Chromebook gets updates.
Every detail records where it came from. When something isn’t published, we leave it blank rather than guess, and a blank never counts against a laptop in the quiz.
How the quiz picks
Each laptop gets a score for each of your answers: enough power for what you’ll do, weight if you’ll carry it, battery life, screen size, the system you prefer and the extras you asked for. The best fit always comes first. When laptops fit about equally well, the ones more people buy come first, and no brand takes more than two of the top places. We show one version of each model, so your results aren’t five versions of the same laptop.
How we make money
When you buy something on Amazon after clicking one of our links, we may earn a small commission. It costs you nothing extra and it doesn’t change which laptops the quiz recommends. Brands can’t pay to appear. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
